Insurance Surveys (Condition and
Valuation)
Insurance surveys are also known as Condition and Valuation
reports. The report provides your insurance company with an
assessment of the current fair market value of your vessel and with
the replacement cost of your vessel should a loss occur. An
itemized list of the equipment is included, noting serial numbers of
all major equipment and the hull, and the current condition of these
items is measured against ABYC and NFPA standards. As this
survey is used by your insurance company to assign a dollar value to
your vessel and its equipment, we recommend that you have a valid
insurance survey completed every three years or whenever
improvements or additions are made. This update will ensure
you are adequately protected. Please speak with your insurance
representative with regards to their requirements.
Pre-Purchase Surveys
Find out if the boat fits your needs. Ensure that
the selling price of the vessel is reasonable. This survey is our
most comprehensive inspection and is recommended prior to the
purchase of any vessel. It provides you, the buyer, with an
independent and objective assessment of the vessel’s condition –
both of the structure and of the equipment. We employ
non-destructive testing methods to examine the vessel’s integrity.
It also helps to ensure that the condition of the boat is suited to
the boat’s intended use.Damage Survey
This assessment is required whenever damage to or loss of a
vessel occurs. A report of this nature identifies the 'scope of the
damage' and covers everything from osmosis analysis to impact damage
assessment. The report includes a detailed description of the
damage and recommends repairs and an estimate of the associated
costs in order to return the vessel to its previous condition
at a standard shop rate (based on
repairs deemed necessary by Swiftsure Marine Surveyors and in
accordance with ABYC and NFPA standards). Insurance companies
typically require a Damage Survey in the event of a claim on loss or
damage, and this report provides them with the information they
require to make an informed decision regarding settlement of the
claim.
Legal Consultation
Whether you are looking for guidance in your particular legal
matters or you require in-court expert testimony with regard to
vessel operation, structures or assemblies, a professional marine
surveyor can be called upon for consultation services. Well
versed in Transport Canada, Coast Guard, National Fire Protection
Agency, Canadian Standards Association, and American Boat and Yacht
Council standards and regulations, a surveyor provides you and/or
the courts the valuable objective information your case requires.
Repair Consultation
Some repairs can be conducted by boat owners vice hired
professionals. A marine surveyor provides professional
guidance and oversight to ensure that these repairs are carried out
with the proper materials and equipment to ensure professional
results.

integrity or relative moisture content, you might be interested in

recommended prior to application of any protective surface coatings
to the hull or deck structures.
